Born Vancouver, Canada - educated University of British Columbia, B.A. 1938

Studied documentary film production, London, on Imperial Relations Trust Bursary, 1939.

Joined National Film Board of Canada, Ottawa, November 1939

1939-1944

Worked under John Grierson at National Film Board of Canada as film editor, director, producer, executive producer. Directed and produced some 80 to 90 documentary films.

1944-1945

Attached as War Correspondent to R.C.A.F. on service film programmes, Britain and Northwest Europe.

1946-1950

Ottawa/National Film Board: Secretary, Producers' Council; Senior Executive Producer.

1951-1954

London/National Film Board: Head of European Office, NFB; initiate promotion and distribution of Canadian films in Britain and Europe through commercial and educational channels, Canadian embassies and missions.

1954-1958

INDIA: Bombay/Burmah Shell Oil Company: Production of films for public relations and training, forty half-hour documentary films completed. 1957 President's Gold Medal Award for Best Documentary Film ("A Himalayan Tapestry")

1959-1961

Montreal/NFB: Producer on contract, National Film Board.

CBC Host and Moderator of CBC Public Affairs Television Series entitled "Lets Face It" (26 wks.-1961; 39 wks.-1962)

1962-1964

New Delhi: Film consultancy with Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India - 3 consecutive summers (C.I.D.A. sponsored consultancy)

Poona, India: Taught six week course on scriptwriting at Film Institute of India as UNESCO consultant.

New York: Joined teaching faculty as Professor of Film, Institute of Film and Television, School of the Arts, New York University.

1970

New Delhi: Produced and directed four half-hour films on "Classical Musicians of North India" for Educational Resources Center (Delhi) and State University of New York.

1970-1974

Toronto: Joined teaching faculty at York University as Founder/Chairman, Department of Film, Faculty of Fine Arts.

1972

Montreal: Adviser to National Film Board on the film "Grierson" (biography for CBC Television)

1974

New Delhi: Research fellowship from the Shastri Indo- Canadian Institute in India for proposed group of films on the "Social History of India".

1975

Tokyo: Produced half-hour film "Hands" on leading Japanese Master Craftsmen, for Mobil Sekiyu Oil Company (Grand Prize, World Craft Council Film Festival, New York, 1975).

1975-1977

Poona: Chief Technical Advisor, UNESCO Project for development of rural television. Production of video and 16mm films.

Toronto, Ottawa: Research project and outline script for proposed film on the Aerospace Industry of Canada (Air Industries Association of Canada)

1981

Montreal: Presentation at Grierson Seminar, McGill University, on "Design and Implementation of a Pattern for National Film Distribution in Canada 1943-1950".

New Delhi: Three month consultancy with division of Adult Education, Ministry of Education, on national program for Adult Literacy, sponsored by UNESCO. (July-September)

1981-1987

Seven year involvement with Jamia Millia and York Universities, to establish a joint university to formulate syllabus and instructional program for two-years Master's Degree. Programs completed and equipment transferred to Indian University as per agreement; transfer/gift effected in August, 1987

- Series of 15 "Development Documentaries" (16 mm. film) on North Carolina subjects for the Governor's Office. Included a wide variety of subjects: education reform, commercial fisheries, agribusiness, historical past etc.
- Series of Black Liberation films based on civil rights themes, for Black Colleges of North Carolina.
- Acted as Budget Officer, Film Editor and Training Officer with junior staff.

- Revised 15 films from Burmah-Shell Film series ( India ) into TV program series called "The Indian Experiment", for National Education Television, New York, 1966-67.

1965-67
Ottawa: Established with husband, James Beveridge Associates Limited ( J.B.A. ).

- Various assignments included editing Crawley Films and producing film on Victoria for 1967 Centennial Celebration.
- Co-Producer/Editor on 3 films for series entitled "The Creative Person" for National Education Television, New York.
Productions were: "Satyajit Ray", "Wealthy Fisher", "Bismillah Khan"
- Trained junior staff member Gary Nichol, now a well-established independent film maker.
