Pandit Jasraj is a singer in Bombay, who travels widely to sing in many parts of the country. He teaches his pupils in the traditional ways, copying, repeating and gradually progressing in complexity and refinement. He visits his spiritual guide and sponsor, the Thakur Saheb, a devotee of Kali, a Hindu Goddess who characterizes the female principle of divine creative energy. Jasraj sings a raga in honour of Kali in an informal concert of the household and local friends.
